2018 Sciana cohort returns to Salzburg, Austria, for second meeting

Sciana 2018 cohort to take part in four-day programme at Schloss Leopoldskron

Members of the Sciana 2018 cohort are returning to Schloss Leopoldskron to investigate the dimensions and indicators of a sustainable and resilient health system.

The 18 health leaders from across Europe are reuniting for their second meeting in Salzburg, Austria, on Saturday, November 24.

The four-day programme will involve members revisiting the Sciana Challenge, which was devised at their first meeting in June.

This Challenge is a statement which outlines priority areas for the cohort to explore. In full, the Challenge’s context and purpose are centred on: “What are the dimensions and indicators of a sustainable and resilient health system in a complex, ageing, and increasingly diverse society?”

Over the next few days, members will explore this Challenge further through a series of plenary discussions, library talks, and by taking part in group work.

During their stay, members will reflect on smarter models for care delivery, the core values which guide their professional practice, and the most pressing issues in their day-to-day working life.

A portion of the programme will focus on the social determinants of health and health in all policies where members will be asked to consider cross-government strategies.

In country groups, members will then discuss policy action concerning social isolation, considering how to mobilize diverse stakeholders.

Members will share policy initiatives already underway in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland as they look to identify the conditions for success and failure.

Towards the end of the programme, three challenge groups will each present their framework for change and develop plans for future Sciana meetings.

Ilona Kickbusch, chair of the Sciana programme, and Sciana’s senior ambassadors, Harry Burns, Heyo Kroemer, and Thomas Zeltner, will help guide members throughout their discussions.

Sciana: The Health Leaders Network is designed to bring together outstanding leaders in health and health care policy and innovation. The network provides members space to take inspiration and learning from across the globe, and time to share insights gained as well as their own experiences with peers, with whom they will work to address some of the shared challenges we are facing across Europe. The Sciana network is supported by a partnership between the Health Foundation (UK), Careum Stiftung (Switzerland) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Germany) in collaboration with Salzburg Global Seminar.
