Sciana senior ambassador to be new Charité CEO

Sciana senior ambassador Heyo Kroemer has been appointed the next chief executive officer of Charité.

Kroemer, the chairman of the managing board of the University Medical Center Göttingen, will succeed Karl Max Einhäupl on September 1, 2019.

Charité, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe, is renowned for its excellence in teaching and training.

The hospital extends over four campuses and has around 100 different departments and institutes. Charité is also one of the largest employers in Berlin and has a total annual turnover of €1.6 billion.

In a statement announcing his appointment, Kroemer thanked the board for putting their confidence in him. After complimenting Charité for its reputation, Kroemer said the organisation also had great potential for the future, which he would continue to build on.

Kroemer is also the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Georg-August-Universität. His research focuses on drug metabolism and transport. In particular, Kroemer researches cardioactive substances, cytostatics, and ways to improve drug targeting.
