Heyo Krömer is chairman of the Managing Board of the University Medical Center Göttingen and dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Georg-August-Universität. His research is focused on drug metabolism and transport. In particular, he is interested in cardioactive substances and cytostatics, as well as in improving drug targeting. In 1998 he was first appointed professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of Bonn, before moving to the chair of pharmacology at the University of Greifswald in the same year. In Greifswald, he initiated the construction of the Competence Center of Drug Absorption and Transport. Professor Kroemer studied pharmacy at the TU Braunschweig and received a Ph.D. at the Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute for Clinical Pharmacology in Stuttgart with a thesis about hemodilution treatment of stroke. Following a short research stay at the University of Basel with Prof U. A. Meyer, he spent two postdoc years at Vanderbilt University with Prof D. Roden before he returned to Stuttgart in 1989. Three years later, Prof Dr Kroemer earned his habilitation for pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Tübingen.
