Ailsa Swarbrick is the Director of the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) National Unit, based in the Tavistock and Portman mental health NHS Trust in London. FNP is a public health programme for vulnerable first-time mothers and their babies, developed in the US and now delivered across about 90 English local authorities. The National Unit oversees national delivery and quality improvement, leads clinical development and training, and is currently undertaking an ambitious improvement and innovation programme, informed by robust research and QI methods. Ailsa previously worked for the UK Government Departments of Health, of Education and of Employment developing social policy, strategy and legislation. She is particularly interested in reducing inequalities, early intervention, developing relational and patient-centred approaches to service delivery, and in how to stimulate and evidence improvement in complex systems. She has a first degree in English and Russian, is currently finishing an MSc in healthcare leadership (quality improvement) and is a Health Foundation Generation Q fellow.
