Annabelle Böttcher is a professor at the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark. She is currently leading a two-year research project financed by the Welfare Innovation Fund on cultural negotiation processes by Muslim migrant patients in the Danish health system. She is also expanding a Danish-German cooperation on patient diversity management and skilled medical professionals with hospitals in Southern Denmark and the Charité University Hospital in Berlin. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and a Habilitation in Islamic Studies from the Free University of Berlin. From 2005 to 2015 Annabelle Böttcher worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross as an advisor and delegate in war and conflict zones, such as Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Niger, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey. Her fields of expertise are contemporary Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey) and Islamic movements (Sunni-Sufi, Sunni-Salafi, Shiite), and Muslim body- and space management.
