Thomas Mattig is the director of Health Promotion Switzerland, a foundation with a federal mandate that is supported by the cantons and the insurance providers. Between 2007 and 2010, Thomas was vice-president of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education, and in 2010 he organised the 20th World Conference on Health Promotion in Geneva, which boasted over 2,200 participants from 123 countries. Before joining Health Promotion Switzerland, he held a senior position in the insurance industry. His dissertation, entitled "The limits of hospital planning from a constitutional viewpoint", tackled the topic of economic freedom in the healthcare sector. After his doctorate, Thomas earned an executive diploma in insurance management from the University of St. Gallen as well as a Master of Advanced Studies in public health from the University of Geneva.
