Malte Gerhold is the chief integrated care officer at Birdie ( <>), a care tech start up helping older adults to live longer, safer and happier in their own home by revolutionising the way care is coordinated around them. Malte leads on developing Birdie's offer across traditional care and service boundaries, putting people at the centre of their care. Until early 2020 he was the executive director of strategy and intelligence at the Care Quality Commission, the quality regulator for health and care services in England. There he was responsible for the organisation's strategy, methodology, data and analytics, and communications, focused on changing the role of regulation to better enable innovation and improvement. He joined CQC in 2013 as director of strategy and policy, and was appointed to the Board in 2016. Before this, he lived and worked in Sierra Leone for just under three years, leading a team advising the president on the implementation of the government's priorities in health care, energy, agriculture and investment. Malte started his career as a strategy consultant, before working as an adviser at the British Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, from where he was appointed deputy director of the Strategy Unit at the Department of Health. Malte has a B.Sc. from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
