The Sciana Network is supported by a partnership between the Health Foundation (UK), Careum (Switzerland) and the Bosch Health Campus (Germany) in collaboration with Salzburg Global.
The Network is for leaders who share a deep commitment to quality, sustainability, universal coverage, and patient and community-centred care, nationally and internationally. Their vision and collaboration, aligned with the UN Sustainable Goals, are critically needed to respond to common issues, such as fiscal strains, demographic change, chronic diseases, and migration.
What does Sciana mean?
The distinctive name of the network 'Sciana' was created by combining the Esperanto words 'scias' (which means 'to know') and 'sana' (meaning 'healthy') and is inspired by the Network's international and interdisciplinary healthcare expertise.
Overview
Sciana provides Fellows with space to take inspiration and learning from across the globe, and time to share insights gained from their own experiences with peers, with whom they will work to address some of the shared challenges we are facing across Europe. Sciana aims to support high-calibre policy and health care leaders with their professional development and career goals. The Sciana Network has up to 18 Fellows in each cohort, with six Fellows selected by each foundation from the UK, Switzerland and Germany. Fellows of the Network include health policymakers and practitioners, as well as academics, journalists, elected officials, public sector leaders and business leaders. Each cohort attends four five-day gatherings over two years. The first cohort meeting took place on 26 April 2017 at Salzburg Global, Salzburg, Austria. International experts lead the workshops where Fellows showcase and develop policy proposals, innovations, and collaborate on joint projects. The Network activities are organised and coordinated by Salzburg Global.
