The Sciana Experience
| Sciana is a cohort-based systems leadership for health and wellbeing programme and a network of mid-to senior-level health leaders. In cohorts of 18 Fellows, the two-year residential programme seeks to equip and prepare proven health leaders for future challenges to health and well-being. It particularly focusses on major trends in our health systems and how a solutions approach in an international context can drive reform at systems level. At the core of Sciana is a modern leadership development paradigm. The programme departs from traditional, lecture-based models in favour of experiential, peer-driven and challenge-based learning, providing an evolving curriculum shaped by emerging challenges and Fellow interests. Fellows engage in reflective practice, applied systems leadership projects (the Sciana Challenge), and cross-country collaboration, supported by expert facilitation, developmental mentoring, and a strong emphasis on trust, community, and shared values. |
The Sciana Network believes that improving health and wellbeing requires leadership that extends beyond the health sector. Transforming health systems demands collaboration across the sectors and systems that shape health, care and wellbeing. Systems leaders use their expertise, experience and influence to work across institutional, professional, sectoral and national boundaries to build shared understanding, align diverse perspectives and enable change. Our Fellows lead through collaboration to create influence beyond organisational boundaries, acting as connectors, bridge-builders and catalysts for structural change.
The Sciana Network’s definition of systems leadership is inspired by the work of Lisa Dreier, David Nabarro and Jane Nelson, Harvard Kennedy School.
