As Director General of the Danish Health Authority since 2015 Soren Brostrom has led the supreme national health agency under the remit of the Minister of Health, charged with policy and implementation on a broad range of issues in public health, health care as well as social services for the elderly. He led a turn-around and reorganization of the Danish Health Authority and has reestablished the organization as a significant national and international force in public health. He is also the national lead in handling the COVID-19 epidemic. He joined the Danish Health Authority in 2011 as the director of hospital services & emergency management, with broad responsibilities for the national planning of hospital and emergency services, preparedness, communicable diseases, immunization and screening programs as well as national action plans in the field of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, mental health etc. He has extensive international experience and represents Denmark in the WHO. He chaired the 27th Standing Committee of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, is the executive president of the 70th WHO Regional Committee for Europe and has been nominated by the Regional Committee to serve on the WHO Executive Board from 2021 through 2024. Dr. Brostrom was awarded Knight of the Order of Dannebrog by H.M. Queen Margrethe in 2018.
