Andreas Welker is the Head of the Department of Health Protection, Infection Control and Epidemiology, Health and Integration Baden-Württemberg, Ministry of Social Affairs, in Stuttgart, Germany. He is public health expert and medical professional. He studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg, graduating in 2006 and earning his doctorate summa cum laude in 2007 with research on liver membrane transport proteins under oxidative stress. His early medical career included roles in internal medicine and anesthesiology, with clinical experience in Heidelberg, Mannheim, Wiesbaden, and Zurich. Since 2014, he has been actively involved in the Public Health Service in Baden-Württemberg. He advanced from leading the Health Protection Unit to serving as Deputy Head of the Health Department in the Rhein-Neckar District and later as Deputy Head of Unit at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, and Integration. He also holds a Master of Public Health and lectures on crisis management and disaster response.
