Birgit Bauer is an internationally recognized expert in digital health, health communication and patient participation. She is a patient expert and speaker, a trained journalist, lives with multiple sclerosis and has more than 20 years of experience advising patient organisations, start-ups, authorities and industry in Europe.
She is the founder of the european digital health academy gGmbH (edha) and heads Data Saves Lives Germany, a patient-driven initiative that promotes trust and understanding for the use of health data, talks about digitalisation in healthcare and health literacy. She was recently appointed to the OECD expert group ‘Data Free Flow with Trust’ (DFFT), bringing the perspective of patients and citizens to the highest international stage.
In 2024, she was honored with the Female Transformers in Healthcare Award in the ‘Volunteer’ category for her commitment. She is a regular speaker at international conferences such as the European Health Forum Gastein, DMEA and DigiHealthDay, and is involved in several European expert committees
