leadership vision

My vision is to lead with support and trust—stepping in when guidance is needed, but stepping back to empower others to innovate and grow. I find true fulfillment in watching the next generation develop their knowledge and talents, and I actively connect people to opportunities and networks that create mutual value. Through a positive, solution-focused mindset, I am committed to helping my teams navigate challenges with confidence and collaboration, ensuring everyone thrives even when options appear limited.

my story

Working with passionate people from diverse backgrounds has broadened my understanding of global health and inspired me to think beyond my own experiences.

about me

Michael is the Country Medical Director at AbbVie in the Netherlands, a role he began in April 2024. Before this, he served as the global medical head for lymphomas and lymphocytic leukaemias, leading teams from Germany and later at AbbVie's Chicago headquarters. Earlier in his career, Michael held medical strategy positions at Pfizer in both the UK and Germany, including a global leadership role based from Berlin.

Michael’s background includes experience as an ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon, specializing academically in the molecular epidemiology of head and neck cancers (PhD, 2015). He also holds a Master’s in Medical Education and has contributed to teaching and research at Queen's University Belfast and University College London.

Passionate about giving back to society, Michael actively volunteers in Lourdes, France, supporting sick and disabled individuals during pilgrimages. He is a member of the International Medical Committee of Lourdes, which investigates reported miraculous cures, and serves as a trustee and chair of clinical governance for St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney, London.

Now based in Leiden, the Netherlands, Michael enjoys exploring new experiences and cultures, having lived in Ireland, the UK, Australia, Germany, the USA, and the Netherlands. In his free time, he loves spending time with family and friends - at home or away.
