about me

Dr Paul Bate has been CEO of the UK Space Agency, an Executive Agency of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), since September 2021.

Prior to this, Paul was Vice President, Commercial at Babylon Health, working with healthcare organisations in the NHS and across the world. Before that, he was the Executive Director of Strategy and Intelligence at the Care Quality Commission.

Prior to CQC, Paul worked at 10 Downing Street, where he was the senior policy adviser on health and social care to both the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister. He also worked for the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit under the last Labour government, where he led the health targets team. Paul has a background in strategy and finance, including working for McKinsey & Company and as a director of 2020 Delivery. He holds a Ph.D. in particle physics from the University of Manchester.
